GEORGE BROWN IS GREEN!!
OTTAWA SOUTH GREEN PARTY CANDIDATE
Former Regional and City of Ottawa Councillor George Brown announced
today that he will be the Green Party candidate in the provincial
riding of Ottawa South. "I do not run for this office merely to oppose
any man...but to propose new policies. I run because I am convinced
that this Province is on a perilous course and because I have strong
feelings about what must be done and therefore I feel that I am
obliged to do all that I can." Brown went on to state how pleased he
was to see one of our major daily newspapers,(Ottawa Citizen) recently
endorse two key policies which are advocated by the Green Party...the
use of Green taxes to allow the "dynamism of the free market to be put
in the service of environmental innovation...to achieve greening that
no regulatory scheme could manage." and Randall Denley's call for
"Parental Choice" in our education system. Brown called for the voters
of Ottawa South to give the policies of the Green Party serious
consideration..."we want the people of Ottawa South to see that the
Green Party is not a fringe party but rather an "emerging" party- one
whose day is coming."
Biographical Info: George Brown is 39 years old, married to Sandy, and
the proud father of Ryan and Angie...both of whom attend Holy Cross
School. George is a consultant working in the area of micro/small
business financing. He has a MS in Community Economic Development from
New Hampshire College, and an Hons. BA from Carleton University.
George served on both Regional and City Council for 9 years and
Chaired the City's Economic Affairs Committee and the Region's
Environmental Services Committee. He played a leading role in the
Regions cleanup efforts on the Rideau River, facilitated the
Debra-Dynes Crime Prevention Initiative, which won both National and
Provincial Crime Prevention awards, and helped establish the
Entrepreneurship Centre.

May 12, 1999: For Immediate Release
ONTARIO GREEN PARTY LEADER OTTAWA OPENS OFFICE,
KICKS OFF STRONG OTTAWA AREA CAMPAIGNS
May 12, 1999 - Ontario Green Party Leader Frank de Jong will be in Ottawa
Thursday to officially open the party's regional office, as part of his
eastern Ontario tour. He'll be at the party's central office at 595 Bank
Street at 11 a.m., joined by at least three of the Greens' local candidates
- Chris Bradshaw (Ottawa Centre), George Brown (Ottawa South), and Richard
Briggs (Ottawa-Vanier), and possibly elementary school teacher Andre
Clermont (Carleton-Gloucester). The Greens have over 50 candidates
nominated across Ontario.
At this time, De Jong will also be discussing the growing irrelevance of the
left-right continuum to Ontario politics and how the so-called green-grey
continuum is its legitimate replacement. Throughout the campaign to date he
has been focussing on the distinctive Green approaches to the prominent
issues of taxes, education, and health care.
Foremost among these Green Party policies is the desire for a shift towards
"green taxes", something long trumpeted by the Greens, but only now
achieving prominence as their Green counterparts in Europe succeed in
enacting Green taxation plans there. Its growing appeal was marked more
recently by the February 19th Ottawa Citizen editorial, "Greening The
Taxman", which espoused those same `green taxation' ideas which Greens have
been advocating.
The Green Party of Ontario is part of a worldwide movement of Green Parties,
which have had their greatest success in countries with more modern
electoral systems, such as Germany, France, Mexico, and much of Scandinavia.
Their policies, while independently designed, stem from a
common desire to live in harmony with other humans and the natural world,
while not sacrificing future generations for short-term gains.
The Greens have over 50 candidates nominated across Ontario, and will have
candidates in all the Ottawa-area ridings, including Ottawa area candidates
Chris Bradshaw and George Brown, both of whom have provided local
environmental leadership over many years.

I will be moving the main FLORA
